Historicial Development: | A sawmill was erected here in 1900 by Forrest Lumber Company, and Industrial Lumber Company bought it in 1903, but still continued to use Forrest's name in the trade journals. The post office was established in 1900. When all the timber was exhausted, by 1905, the plant was dismantled and shipped to Industrial's operation at Seale, Louisiana.
Headquarted in Beaumont, the company contracted for an annual capacity of 75 million board feet. It either owned or leased mills at Silsbee, Call, and Caraway in Texas, and Vinton, Calcasieu, and Oakdale in Louisiana. It had built a huge mill at Elizabeth, Louisiana, by 1909. R. N. Watson y Cia, of Monterey, Mexico, complained to the Lutcher-Moore in 1904 that its products were not as good as those of Industrial Lumber. Industrial Lumber appeared on a list of creditors of Farmers and Merchants Lumber Company in 1932. Its office at Beaumont was not listed in the 1934 edition of the Lumbermen's Credit Rating Book. |
