Historicial Development: Brown & Downs owned a sawmill firm in Jasper early in the century. They first appear at Jasper in a Beaumont Journal article in 1904, and later in the Reference Book of the Lumbermen's Credit Association, January 1907. The Jasper County tax roll for 1908 shows that they owned another 319 acres besides their land on the D. M. Rose survey.
