Historicial Development: The Cypress Creek Saw Mill Company was listed in the 1928 Southern Lumberman's Directory of American Saw Mills and Planing Mills as operating a mill at Cypress. Thompson Family Lumber Company Records reveal that a partnership was formed, in September, 1926, between Harry G. Cern, Hoxie H. Thompson, and Sam S. Day. Cern and Day ‘s relationship had gone back to 1917 when they, with Charles W. Miller, formed a retail yard, the Day-Miller Lumber Company. The lumber plant was located on the J. H. Callahan Survey in Harris County, three miles southeast of Cypress. The plant was purchased from J. W. Prince, who had earlier operated the sawmill. There was a sawmill town with tenement housing.
