Historicial Development: | In 1944, Lone Star Lumber Company bought the portable sawmill outfit of James D. and O. C. Grounds. Equipment included a “portable sawmill complete with 1 International PA-100 power unit, two 60” circular saws, carriage & set works, edger, also 2 log trailers.” Lone Star Lumber was owned by M. M. Ditmar, according to the Directory of Texas Manufacturers. He employed more than fifty workers. The company did its own logging and sold its products state-wide.
Grounds Lumber Company, headquartered in Rusk County, operated several small mills in Rusk and Nacogdoches counties previously. |
