Historicial Development: | The Houston County Lumber Company had been sawmilling in Houston County for sometime before it burned to the ground on April 30, 1961, according to The Gulf Coast Lumberman. The company had no insurance but announced it would build again. Nelson Samson listed the sawmill in 1966 as being operational.
Cherokee County records reveal that a Houston County Lumber Company had bought 100,000 feet of lumber from Holt Lumber Company of Rusk in 1948. |
