Historicial Development: | Awtrey Fleming Daniel, son of William Fleming Daniel, the noted sawmiller of Cushing and Nivac, lost his sawmill and planing mill at Crockett to fire in the later 1930s. He moved a new sawmill for a period of time to Walker County and then to Shiloh Community in Houston County.
Although he did not provide tenant housing, he did have a small commissary for the workers; his daughters Barbara, Margie, and Ruth all worked in the commissary at one time or another. The A. F. Daniel Lumber Company appears in the 1938 edition of Directory of Texas Manufacturers but not the editions for 1941 and 1946. A. F. Daniel sawmilled in the area at four different locations in and near Shiloh until illness forced him to sell his equipment in 1950.
