Historicial Development: This sawmill firm operated under various names (see above) but is normall associated with J. D. Houston. The Lufkin Daily News reported that the Elkhart Lumber Company sawmill was operating at Elkhart in 1943 and had been for about fifteen years. It was listed under J. D. Houston in the Southern Lumberman's Directory of American Saw Mills and Planing Mills for 1928, cutting 15,000 feet daily. The Houston-Bostick Lumber Company is listed in the 1957 Directory of Wood-Using and Related Industries in East Texas.
