Historicial Development: | Henry Reinhardt operated a sawmill in the 1930s south of Friendship Community on the John Freese place in northeastern Waller County. Using a Frick#0 sawmill with an Atkins Selver steel 48-inch circular saw powered by a 40-horsepower diesel engine, the daily cutting capacity was 3,500 board feet. The mill also included a planer. Reinhardt sold slabs and edgings for fifty cents per load and sold board ends to a cabinet maker in Bellville. At first sawdust was shoveled out by hand, but later it was moved by a sawdust chain and hauled to the unsold slab and edging pile. There all the debris was burned.
Reinhardt's sons Oscar and Albert later operated the mill before moving it to Rosehill, Harris County. |
