Historicial Development: | The Kelley & Pace sawmill was listed in Enumeration District 157 for Walker County in the 1880 Census. The Census recorded the d capital value of the facility at $8,500. Kelley & Pace employed thirty men at peak production and twenty-five normally. They were paid $1.25 to $1.50 daily for ten-hour shifts during the winter and eleven-hour shifts in the summer. The firm paid out a total of $4,000 in wages. From $11,500 worth of sawlogs and supplies, the facility manufactured 2,000,000 feet of lumber for a value of $20,000.
