Historicial Development: | The Cline & Jones sawmill may have been in operation as early as 1891, for county records reveal that B. D. Cline had a sawmill he mortgaged to Mrs. Sallie Gibbs located “just above the town of Huntsville and consisting of one 45 hp. boiler, purchased from George W. Grant, which used to be located at Grant's Colony, 5 miles east of Huntsville; also 1 sawmill and fixtures which lately purchased from George W. Grant . . .”. The mill must have soon passed into the hands of John A. [W.?] Weatherly, for he was mortgaging the same equipment two years in a row, the second mortgaging noting that “This is known as the Cline mill, situated on J. B. Jones land northwest of Huntsville.” |
