Historicial Development: In 1892 G. W. Holley had a sawmill plant at Hawkins in Wood County. A county record notes the value of his equipment, including commissary goods worth $1495;planer $500; edger $225; saw carriage $250; saw frame and pulley $275; 35-horspower Erie steam engine and boiler $2000; six yoke of oxen $300; and two log wagons $150. G. W. Holly was cutting 25,000 feet daily at Hawkins in 1893. G. W. Holley was listed as sawing 5,000 feet daily of yellow pine, red oak, and post oak lumber in 1915 at Hawkins.
