Historicial Development: According to the Census of 1870, the sawmill firm of Morris and Yarbrough owned and operated a sawmill in Precinct No. 4 in Wood County. The capital investment, according to the enumeration, was d to be $4,500. Six men earned $2,000 at the sawmill in ten months; four men $300 in two months at the grist mill; and two men $500 in six months at the gin. Raw materials included 6,000 logs ($5000), unmilled grain ($1,500), and 120,000 pounds of cotton. The sawmill manufactured 1,500,000 feet of lumber valued at $30,000. The grist mill produced cornmeal valued at $2,200. The gin manufactured 40,000 pounds of lint cotton worth $8,000 and 80,000 pounds of seed cotton worth $300.
