Historicial Development: | In 1870, the capital investment of the Brown sawmill, according to that year's Census Products of Industry Schedule, was d to be $4,000. Five men earned a total wage of $1,000 for eight months work in the sawmill and seven months in the grist mill. Raw materials included $1,500 worth of logs and and $500 in unmilled corn. The sawmill manufactured 600,000 feet of lumber valued at $6,000. The grist mill produced cornmeal valued at $800. |
