Historicial Development: | J. R. Wood was listed at Gladewater in 1893 as cutting 20,000 feet daily in 1893, and again as a sawmiller in the Reference Book of the Lumbermen's Credit Association credit ratings for 1905 and 1907. This may be the same J. R. Wood who was sawmilling at Big Sandy in Upshur County in 1907. According to county deed of trust records, J. R. Wood sold the mill to A. J. Wood after it had been operated by Castle & Phillips. The record of 1923 reveals that equipment and animals included one Huntsville steam engine and boiler, all the machinery, including belts and pulleys, four horses, two mules, one 8-wheel wagon, and one 4-wheel wagon. |
