Historicial Development: | The Reference Book of the Lumbermen's Credit Association, January 1907 reported that E. B. West had a planing mill at Gilmer in 1907. The T. C. Mitchell sawmill at Gilmer was sold to E. B. West in September 1907 for $7,000, according to Upshur County records. Property included the sawmill plant, sawtimber contracts, and the land on ten acres leased from J. O. Reynolds, which in included a Fisher and Davis sawmill, an 11-inch by 14-inch Atlas steam engine, a 48-inch by 12-inch Atlas steam boiler, a Curtis edger, a #522 Franks planer, eight mules, two log wagons, and a Fisher & Davis pony surfacer. The site earlier belonged to T. C. Mitchell and C. E. McClelland. |
