Historicial Development: The Jacksonville Courier noted in 1947 that the sawmill plant had been built in 1943. J. H. Marsh and Harold David owned and operated the small lumber manufacturing facility, which consisted of a sawmill, planing mill, and dry kilns. Marsh managed the business from Moscow while David, of Chester, was the plant manager and woods superintendent. The newspaper mentioned they were building a new plant and employed fifteen to eighteen men. The Chester Lumber Company was listed in the “List of Manufacturers Who Are Members of TFPMA, Spring 1967.” The name of the company was on an address list of the Southern Pine Inspection Board in 1968. An annotation to a Participating Members roster of the TFPMA record, dated May 6, 1969, records that Chester Lumber Company was “Closed.”
