Historicial Development: | This small mill was listed in the 1905 edition of the Reference Book of the Lumbermen's Credit Association, but not the Southern Industrial and Lumber Review listing of September 1906. It was listed again in 1907 by the LCA.
Smith County Deeds of Trust records indicate that the sawmill plant was probably located at lot 8, block 40 in Troup, in 1904.
The Brothers did some of their financing in Cherokee County. R. H. and B. F. Childers in 1907 mortgaged to Farmer & Merchants Bank for $236, pledging an engine, two saws, shafting, and other items. R. H. Childers mortgaged five days later to W. S. Miles an half-interest in the sawmill, probably his own interest or an interest that he had purchased from B. F. Childers.
J. W. McMeans & et al l in 1908 mortgaged to R. H. Childers for $300 a sawmill and fixtures. |
