Historicial Development: In 1891, Day & Son mortgaged a single-circular sawmill, three Reeders head blocks, a 24-foot carriage, and one hand-fed edger. The Galveston Weekly News reported, in 1893 that Day and Son were cutting 20,000 feet daily at Paxton. In 1894, the company was supplying lumber for the housing industry. Adjacent grants were made to Thomas J. Day and J. J. Spivey, located south of the Houston East & West Texas railroad in an area near Paxton. T. G. Day married Gowilla Guyse Spivey. J. J. Spivey wrote that a sawmill was located across the HEWT from his land. A switch on the tracks was known as Spivey, which is located east of Tenaha.
