Historicial Development: Sam Wych was operating a sawmill in Shelby County in 1906. It had a 10-inch by 12-inch Atlas steam engine, one 44-inch by 12-ft Henderson boiler, an edger, and a cutoff saw. By 1909 or 1910, J. R. (or J. S.) Morse had come into possession of the sawmill “known as the Sam Wych sawmill.” Much of Wych's machinery was gone, but the sawmill and edger remained. Morse's equipment included a 36-inch by 10-ft boiler, a 7-inch by 10-inch Ames engine, an Atlas 9-inch by 12-inch engine, and an edger.
