Historicial Development: | C. A. Lewis, before sawmilling, began gathering equipment in 1909. In September he mortgaged to Jordan-Sanders for $504 an engine, three circular saws, sawdust chain, a gummer, a boss dog, two buggies, a carriage, and a sawmill complete. In November, Lewis mortgaged to L. F. Owens a 45-horsepower boiler, a 10-inch by 12-inch steam engine, five circular saws, a carriage and set works, a 3-saw edger, nine lumber dollies, and #2 Curtis sawmill.
This operation may have been earlier the Lewis & Ashford outfit of 1907.
Jordan-Sanders was operating at Clark's Switch, five or six miles south of Center, at that time. |
