Historicial Development: The Hight Lumber Company, according to The Jacksonville Journal in 1947, began sawmilling in Sabine County in 1940. The portable sawmill operation worked through the county. It had been at Black Jack in 1945 and 1946. John Hight sold his lumber wholesale. A San Augustine County bill of sale filed on record noted that John Hight sold in 1942 for $350 and assumption of all debt for $350 paid by J. H. Oglesbee a Curtis sawmill, a McCormick-Deering motor, saws, 1939 Chevrolet truck, and a Martin tractor and livestock.
