Historicial Development: A number of Thomases were involved in several sawmills in San Augustine County during the first decade of the 20th century. One was the Thomas and Fields and the Thomas and Blount sawmills. Their locations are yet uncertain. In 1907, both operations were taxed by the county on products, tools, and boilers. The Thomas and Fields sawmill was also taxed for commissary wares in 1907 and 1909. Also on 28 January 1909 the firm of Thomas and Fields mortgaged $600 with Hall and Brown Machinery Company for a 20th Century #1 double-surfacer planer-matcher.
