Historicial Development: The J. K. Bivins Lumber Company was reported by The Gulf Coast Lumberman, in 1914, to have bought stumpage of thirty million feet from the Kirby Lumber Company. It was opening a sawmill facility to cut the timber. There is no record that a Bivins sawmill ever operated at San Augustine or in the county. It is possible that the sale fell through and that the timber was later sold that year or next to the Angelina County Lumber Company, which organized the San Augustine County Lumber Company to harvest and mill the timber.
