Historicial Development: | Southern Industrial and Lumber Review reported in January, 1909 that A. H. McClurg, David McClurg, and J. E. Chance had organized the A. H. McClurg Lumber Company at Lumberton with a capital stock of $10,000. The company intended to “be a saw milling and wholesale company.” The Handbook of Texas notes that Lumberton was a switch and flag stop on the Santa Fe route and had been constructed “to bring lumber from the sawmill at Hook's Switch,” which would have been the rail outlet for Hooks Lumber Company milling facility. |
