Historicial Development: | Hubert Busby, when interviewed by Vernon Beasley, reported that the J. H. Busby sawmill operated one and a half miles south of Broaddus from 1943 to 1960. The plant, its commissary, and its houses were sold to Troy Carroll, who operated it until at least 1976. Hubert stated that Carroll had operated another sawmill at Broaddus after World War II.
According to San Augustine county records, Broaddus Lumber Company, with Troy Carroll and Max Robertson, were operating in 1976 on the location of the former J. H. Busbee Lumber Company mill site, located on the Easter Wise survey, Abstract 315, about one and one-half miles south of Broaddus. Equipment, valued at $168,000, included a Yates A-20 planer, a Taylor lift truck, a log fork, three Strick semitrailers, a Morbark debarker and a Morbark Chip-Pac, plus other items. |
