Historicial Development: | B. B. Pirtle & Sons has operated a sawmill since 1966 at Laneville. It cut rough lumber and crossties plus other manufactured items with less than twenty-five employees. Webb reported that “the crossing of the narrow roads or lanes . . . gave the town its name.” In 1946, with about 170 people, the town could boast of two schools, a lumber plant, a gin, and several stores. |
