Historicial Development: Tom Hackney established the sawmill town of Lone Star, according to Ruth Peebles, A Pictorial History of Polk County, Texas. He had been sawmilling in the Boggy District of Montgomery County in 1880 and apparently moved this mill to Valda about 1890. The logs were moved over a tram road to the mill.
