Historicial Development: | The Southern Industrial and Lumber Review reported in September 1908 that the firm of Pruett and Biggs had been operating a saw mill “for some time” at Beckville, and were planning to install a planing mill to finish their own lumber. The firm had earlier appeared in the January 1905 Reference Book of the Lumbermen's Credit Association but not in the 1907 edition.
On August 23, 1905, Pruett & Biggs mortgaged to Walter Connally & Company for a 12-inch by 14-inch Atlas steam engine. They mortgaged the sawmill with its boiler and engine and two yoke of oxen for $900 on February 1, 1907. On March 23, 1907, they mortgaged with Walter Connally & Company their Atlas 12-inch by 14-inch center-crank steam engine, steam exhaust pipe, and other items. On January 22, 1908, Pruitt & Biggs mortgaged 2,500,000 feet of lumber to the First National Bank at Longview for $4,500. |
