Historicial Development: | The shingle-making firm of Neal & Fleming was running a mill eight miles south of Carthage in 1898. In that year, W. E. Ross paid $600 to them for four hundred thousand cypress shingles, plus an assortment of sawlogs and trees. Ross owned and operated a sawmill about a half mile away. The shingle mill was located next to Murvaul Bayou. |
