Historicial Development: | R. B. Bicham, according to The Jacksonville Journal in 1947, had been running a portable sawmill out of Deweyville, where he had a general store. At the time of the article, the logging crow had been cutting in the Devil's Pocket sector of Newton County. Bicham had almost one million standing feet of timber still to harvest. He employed nineteen to twenty men and used four trucks and three teams.
According to the Directory of Wood-Using and Related Industries in East Texas, published in 1957, the R. B. Bicham Sawmill was operating at Deweyville. The company also appeared in the Directory of Texas Manufacturers 1956-1958. |
