Historicial Development: The Cow Creek Tram Company was originally organized by Dennis Call and George Adams in Orange in 1890 to build and operate railroad tram lines for the purpose of harvesting logs for the Orange sawmills. According to Webb in the Handbook of Texas, Cow Creek Tram Company used Old Salem as the base for its logging camp from 1892 to 1895. A tram road was built to transport sawtimber to the Sabine River at Old Salem, where the logs would be floated to Orange.
