Historicial Development: Peter Ellis Bean moved the sawmill to LaNana Bayou about eight miles south of Nacogdoches about. According to Nacogdoches County deed records, dated June 28, 1836, Haden Edwards and James Carter bought an one-half undivided interest in a sawmill and grist mill on a league and fifty acres of land, “all of which previously belonged to Bean and Thorn jointly.” The purchase price was $1,600.
