Historicial Development: | The Hotchkiss saw and grist mill in Nacogdoches County employed two hands, and paid $40 per month in wages during the census year ending June 1, 1850. These census records also reveal that the owners were the largest lumber producers in the county at that time, having manufactured during the year 315,014 feet (valued at $3096). 5085 bushels of meal was also produced during the year (a value of $3813). The owners of the Hotchkiss mill had $5713 invested in the business. |
