Historicial Development: | On April 9, 1907, Bybee sold his undivided 1/2 interest in the sawmill of Bybee & Wick to Bernard Brown of Houston for $1,250. W. P. Vick sold his undivided 1/2 interest in the sawmill of Bybee & Vick to Bernard Brown of Houston for $250 cash and notes.
Secondary source of Southern Industrial and Lumber Review (Dec 1908) reports that Brown and his sawmill company, the Montgomery County Lumber Company, were in financial trouble: at a meeting of the creditors of the MCLC and Brown, E. H. Harrelson appointed trustee from Brown and George L. Teat appointed trustee for MCLC. Brown's liabilities were more than $53,500 and MCLC's more than $24,500.
Brown bought along with the sawmill, the steam engine, the boiler, a sawframe and carriage, six circular saws, two dollies, etc.
Bybee is listed as a sawmill owner in the 1910 Census, living at Residence 147, Precinct 1. |
