Historicial Development: | Plummer & Matthews, on August 15, 1907, sold its sawmill and planing mill plus other assets to Houston and Liggett. Both companies were from Houston. Plummer & Matthews may have bought the old Santa Fe Company stock from H. J. Montgomery. Houston & Liggett is not listed for Magnolia or Tharp in the “Lumber Mills of Texas” by Southern Industrial and Lumber Review in 1906.
The sale of August 1907 included the mills, twenty-four oxen, eleven mules, two log wagons, 804,000 feet of lumber on the yard, two and one-quarter miles of tram road, the commissary and its stock, edger saw, trimmer, and also a lease of rails from the International & Great Northern. Only the Amsler house was excluded. This property was located at what must have one of the locations of C. Amsler in the 1880's. A deed record establishes a conveyance of a house owned by the Amsler estate from C. Amsler and spouse to L. P. Amsler in 1884. |
