Historicial Development: | New Caney Lumber Company was a sawmill firm operating at or near New Caney after 1910. L. J. Barnes of Burkitt & Barnes had an interest in the sawmill along with S. A. Bender and W. J. and Lillie Sorrels. In 1913, Burkitt & Barnes of Midline Switch bought 75,000 feet of pine lumber and 44,000 oak lumber from New Caney Lumber Company, the lumber being stored at the New Caney sawmill.
In August 1915 H.G. Bohlssen moved his hardwood mill from Jasper to New Caney. The H.G. Bohlssen Lumber Company operated a hardwood mill at New Caney in 1918, according to a record that appeared in the Gulf Coast Lumberman on August 1, 1918. Simon Henderson of Keltys enticed him to move next to Angelina County. |
