Historicial Development: | The Hussey-Whelan Lumber Company was listed in the Directory of American Sawmills of 1915 as sawing 12,000 feet of lumber daily. The lumber company entered into a contract in 1914 to supply the Marshall & East Texas Railway with no more than 60,000 crossties plus as many switch ties as necessary on a yearly basis. In 1916 the lumber company filed a mechanic's lien against the railroad company to enforce the contract payment.
J. B. Hussey had been the timber business since 1903. That year he bought 252 acres in Camp County from Gus Harrison. |
