Historicial Development: The Schedules of Manufactures from the 1880 Census reveal that Plantersville Precinct had a sawmill that produced two million board feet of lumber in the reporting period. The ownership is uncertain because of the illegibility of the names on the manuscript. The mill was powered by a steam boiler and engine, generating forty-five horsepower. The mill force included fifteen to twenty-five men who earned between $1.25 to $3.00 per each ten-hour day and were paid a combine wage of $4,000. Two million board feet were produced from $12,500 worth of raw materials and was valued at $21,500.
