Historicial Development: Powell Lumber, a sawmill and planing mill company supplying lumber to manufacturing companies, appeared on an Accounts Payable Statement, Lufkin Fence Company, Lufkin, Texas, Fence Plant, Exhibit A Sheet No. 4. In October, 1908, Powell Land and Lumber Company mortgaged to to W. Connally & Co for $223 a #106 gang edger. Powell Lumber was first organized at Maydelle in Cherokee County. Later, the company operated a planer at Rusk and then added a sawmill. The sawmill was moved there as well. W. T. Block notes that the census of 1910 devotes six pages to Powell Mill Road and Yates Mill Road. Cade Powell, the sawmill manager, lived at residence 100.
