Historicial Development: | Frank T. Smith mortgaged on May 19, 1908, to Farmers and Merchants State Bank for $410 1,200 crossties. By the end of 1909, his sawmill site was identified as Smith & Looney: Smith for $250 mortgaged to J. E. Bagley “all lumber at Smith & Looney's sawmill, 6 oxen, 1 log wagon.”
This sawmill may have been somewhere along the Cherokee and Nacogdoches county border, for a sawmill location named Looneyville was located in western Nacogdoches County at that time.
