Historicial Development: The sawmill firm of Neely & Copeland & Lester were operating in Cherokee County in the early 1900s. They mortgaged on July 6, 1907, to Dilley & Son for $400 a 10-inch by 12-inch steam engine, a cutoff saw, and an edger. The county records note that Neely & Copeland had a sawmill in Cherokee County in 1909, for they mortgaged on May 24, 1909, to W Connally Company for $215, pledging a 20-foot trimmer. Neely sold C. B. Ricks a complete sawmill in 1911.
