Historicial Development: | The W. A. Spears Lumber Company mill plant appeared in the 1928 edition of the Southern Lumberman's sawmill directory. Lufkin Daily News reported in 1943 that the sawmill had been operating northwest of Alto for many years.
W. A. Spears sold to the Butter Gin & Crate Company “1 complete sawmill, carriage, saws, Allis-Chalmers PU, mill shed, machinery known as the the Spears sawmill” for $2300 in 1944. |
