Historicial Development: | According to the Directory of Texas Manufacturers, 1956-1958, the Bauman Lumber Company at Alto was established as a sole proprietorship in 1951 with James F. Bauman as owner. In 1956, the company, working more than fifty employees, made hardwood lumber and pallets. It lasted until 1972, first under the direction of Jim Bauman and later under Gus Whiteman. It developed from a steam plant making studs to an electric mill making pallets. It employed more than fifty workers on the average. It was not listed in the Directory of Texas Manufacturers 1960. |
