Historicial Development: | Gate City Lumber Company seems to have begun about 1886 with purchase of land at Texarkana from B. T. Estes. He continued to sell land to the company until at least 1890. William Morris, George H. Finks, and Ben Collins were the owners and operators of the company. In 1901, the sawmill was reported to be cutting 60,000 feet of lumber daily.
The company was operating, according to Strapac, in 1889 a narrow gauge steam logging tram road. |
