Historicial Development: | A.G. Dupuy ran a small mill in precinct 3 on Dairi Creek in 1880, worth $750. He employed five workers that year and paid them from $1 to $2 per day; three of the workers were children under the age of sixteen. The normal work force had two males and two females. The ten hour day was normal in the summer and eight during the winter. Wages varied from $1.00 daily for unskilled labor and $2.00 per day for skilled. The mill used a single circular saw and cut 300,000 feet of lumber in 1880 from $1,700 in logs and mill supplies for a gross value of $3,000. The mill was water powered, harnessing a fifteen feet fall with a four feet wide overshot wheel, producing sixteen horsepower. The firm did its own logging.
