Historicial Development: According to the Southern Lumberman, Henderson & Hayter specialized in the manufacturing of hardwoods and shortleaf yellow pine lumber in 1928 at Huntington. Products included crossties, spokes, and timbers. The company operated a circular sawmill and planing mill and employed a dry kiln, trimmers, and edgers. The company town had a commissary and a few tenant homes. An earlier record in the Angelina County registers indicate that Henderson-Hayter was located at Huntington in 1923: they bought a mule from a D. Liverman that year. In 1925, they picked up a gasoline sawmill outfit from George B. White at Bald Hill. The lumber mill does not appear in trade journals or county records after 1928.
