The Manuscript Census of 1880, reporting for June 1, 1879 to May 31, 1880, detailed the business operations of the sawmill. The sawmill, d a capital value of $1,000, worked five men at peak,and five men normally. The employees received daily wages of $1.00 to $1.50 for ten hours. Simmons paid a total wage of $700. From a total value of $2,300 of supplies and sawlogs, the sawmill manufactured 100,000 feet of lumber and 40,000 thousand feet of beading, valued at a gross worth of $5,000.
