Historicial Development: | The Liberty Lumber Company began as the Devers Lumber Company in 1952. Devers Lumber Company operated a sawmill at Dime Box in 1957, according to Nelson Samson's directory of East Texas sawmills in 1957. Managed by Sam J. Bass, Jr., it produced building lumber with a work force of less than fifty. The company later changed its name to Liberty Lumber Company. It continued to operate through the 1970s. Liberty Lumber advertised that it manufactured “kiln-dried Texas yellow pine.” Doing its own logging, the company manufactured 7.5 million board feet in 1973 with forty-six employees
