Historicial Development: W. Roy Reid Lumber Company operated a sawmill at Phelps in 1919 and another near Huntsville. Reid sold South Texas Lumber Company, owned by J. M. West, more than five hundred thousand feet of lumber for $15,669, on December 11, 1919. On July 30, and October 7, and November 9, 1920, Reid Lumber Company sold more lumber to South Texas Lumber Company from his Phelps sawmill.
