Historicial Development: Francis Bailey was enumerated as a “sawmiller” in Precinct 1 of Walker County in the 1860. W. T. Block believes that Rufus Roark is the best possibility among several Roarks in the County to be Bailey's partner. This sawmill operation, according to the 1860 Census Products of Industry Schedule, was d to be a capital investment of $5,000, with $1,250 invested in 2,350 sawlogs. Four men were employed at a total monthly wage of $160. The sawmill manufactured 560,000 feet of lumber valued at $6,750.
